Biography

Sheila Webber is a lecturer in the Department of Information Studies, University of Sheffield, UK. She teaches on both postgraduate and undergraduate programmes, and her areas of teaching and research are information literacy, marketing and business information. Together with Bill Johnston (Strathclyde University) she was awarded funding by the AHRB for a three year project into UK academics’ conceptions of information literacy (Stuart Boon, the project’s Research Associate, is presenting on this topic at CKIII). Before joining the Department at Sheffield, in 2000, she taught in the Department of Information Science at the University of Strathclyde, Scotland. Prior to that she was Head of the British Library’s Business Information Service (she was also Head of BLAISE Online Services whilst at the BL, responsible for marketing and training). Sheila has a strong professional involvement: she is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (currently serving on two of CILIP’s professional committees), a member of the committee of the IFLA Management and Marketing. Section, and a member of ASIST and of the Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. She is a frequent speaker and writer on information literacy and maintains/participates in The Information Literacy Place (http://dis.shef.ac.uk/literacy/) and The Information Literacy Weblog (http://ciquest.shef.ac.uk/infolit/)
